Net Zero living, Regenerative Farming, and Green living communities

Why isn't anyone talking about net-zero living anymore? If the Amish can do it, why can't we? Would you rather wait until you're forced into adopting new ways of living a more stress-free lifestyle?  What are some things we might consider changing now, just in case our easy-come-easy-go lifestyle gets yanked out from under us? Consider new ways to cut back on how much power, water, and food resources you use presently. Consider where you can grow food or if it is already growing on your property.
