Support your community and the environment: Donate to the Johnson County Mountain City/GWA sponsored Seed Library for 2025 and beyond.
GWA is dedicated to preserving and sharing seeds through a Seed Bank, Seed Library, and Seed Exchange program, inviting seed and nature enthusiasts to get involved.
In mid-2024, Seed Savers Exchange donated seeds to Johnson County, marking the start of our partnership with GWA to collect and store seeds that will benefit our local communities. This initiative is just the beginning of a much larger endeavor. As we grow the Johnson County Mountain City Seed Library, our aim is to create an abundant reserve that will support over 18,000 homeowners in the region. Our collaboration with the Johnson County Mountain City Library and the community doesn't end there! The next step involves partnering with the University of Tennessee Agricultural Department in developing educational programs designed to teach children and adults how to utilize the earth’s resources for a healthier and happier lifestyle. Our ultimate goal is to achieve food sovereignty and self-sufficiency!
The JCMC Library Seed program will launch in April 2025. Stay tuned for the ribbon cutting date! Until then, we will be helping the library prepare for donations of heirloom and organic seeds to ensure the Seed Library remains well-stocked. If you have heirloom or organic seeds you'd like to share, please contact us to arrange your seed donation packet. Your seed and monetary contributions will be invaluable as we unite our community for a greener future. Help us gather, store, and distribute seeds in 2025. By borrowing and returning seeds within this program, we can collectively build a stronger, more resilient community. Check out our video blog on Seed Libraries for more information.
Join GWA in establishing Seed and Feed programs, donating to support community educational initiatives, and being part of the legacy of preserving and sharing seeds for future generations. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our environment and our community.
Are you an animal lover? Join us in supporting the dedicated animal caregivers who tirelessly work to save, rehabilitate, and rehome deserving animals in need of love. Sadly, in the wake of the pandemic, we are seeing more and more animals being abandoned and left to suffer. This has far-reaching consequences for both the animals and our communities.
The consequences of abandonment are devastating. These innocent animals are left to fend for themselves, suffering from hunger, thirst, injuries, and disease. They also pose a safety risk by roaming freely, potentially causing accidents and becoming a nuisance to the community. Moreover, overcrowded rescues and end of life sanctuaries struggle to provide for the influx of animals, leaving many without a forever home.
That's where you come in. Let's work together to raise awareness and donate to local animal shelters, rescue farms, and end of life sanctuaries. Your donation will assist in important upgrades to their facilities, buy lands to expand, ensure compliance with laws, and provide funding for rehoming and retraining these deserving animals. By supporting these heart-centered animal caregivers, you are making a significant impact in the lives of animals in need. Donate today and help GWA provide the assets and resources they deserve.
Attention homesteaders, preppers, nature enthusiasts, scientists, builders, and everyone—young and old—who dreams of making the world a better place!
GWA is currently partnering with The Venus Project to transform values in an evolving culture. With times changing, it’s essential that we embrace fresh ideas.
To illustrate the future direction of our expanding community, GWA believes we must reevaluate our traditional ways of thinking to avoid the pitfalls of not preparing for what lies ahead. Many of us imagine a future that preserves our current social framework, clinging to outdated values and past traditions. However, superficial changes will only perpetuate the challenges we face today. Relying on old mindsets to tackle significant issues will only squander our time, energy, and resources. The obstacles we confront now cannot be resolved with outdated notions and values that no longer serve us. As we look to the future, we must prioritize housing resources, clean food, and air and water quality. Neglecting these essentials and allowing others to dictate our access to them would be a grave misstep.
Stay tuned as we forge ahead! GWA is collaborating with builders, landowners, agriculturalists, universities, environmental experts, nature lovers, and healthcare professionals to enhance the health and well-being of our community. We are currently in discussions with landowners and builders to gather quotes for developing sustainable communities that leverage local resources, discover innovative ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials previously overwhelming our landfills, and establish cooperative gardens, greenhouses, and hydroponic and aquaponic farms in the areas we and others plan to develop. To deepen your understanding of our mission, we invite you to read "The Best That Money Can't Buy: Beyond Politics, Poverty & War" by Jacque Fresco.
If you’re passionate about embracing change and eager to take action before a crisis strikes, let’s connect! Together, we can formulate a plan to create new communities that nurture and support innovative ideas for shaping a sustainable future. Let’s work together to recession-proof Appalachia for generations to come.
